DESCRIPTION: Approximate length 5.5 - 6.5mm. A distinctive member of the Cicadellidae group with a yellow and black patterning that really can't be mistaken. However, the black patterning can be variable and the forewings can be entirely yellow. The wings are distinctly shorter than the abdomen in females. The hind tibia has one to three rows of spines running along the entire length. BEHAVIOUR: Only really seen via sweep-netting or careful examination of low vegetation where these little critters creep about and rest. DISTRIBUTION: Common throughout the UK given the right conditions. HABITAT: Dry grassland, meadows and scrubby areas. PERIOD: June to October. |
